The Krishak Bandhu scheme is a highly popular and welfare-oriented initiative launched by the Government of West Bengal. Initially introduced under the leadership of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, its primary objective was to provide financial security and support to impoverished and marginal farmers for agricultural activities.

Following a political transition, the new government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has successfully maintained and continued this welfare project in the interest of the farming community. Among them, the prominent Krishak Bandhu Scheme—originally launched by the Department of Agriculture in 2019 and scaled up in 2021—is being actively maintained and expanded to safeguard the agricultural community.

Under the dynamic administration of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the state’s farmers continue to receive robust financial assistance twice a year, ensuring seamless support for both Kharif and Rabi cultivations. Beyond direct financial aid, the updated framework of the scheme ensures comprehensive insurance coverage, protecting farmers against unforeseen agricultural risks and securing their livelihoods for a prosperous future.

The Objective of the Krishak Bandhu Scheme

India is predominantly an agrarian nation, and West Bengal stands at the forefront of agricultural output, particularly in rice production. However, farmers continuously face escalating challenges as the market prices of essential agricultural inputs—such as fertilizers and seeds—rise significantly day by day. Despite these soaring production costs, cultivators often struggle to secure fair and profitable prices for their harvested crops, plunging many into severe financial distress.

To address these critical challenges and uplift the farming community, the Krishak Bandhu Scheme was introduced to provide vital economic assistance and restore the morale of farmers across the state. Under this flagship welfare initiative, financial aid is directly provided to farmers proportional to their landholding size, ensuring equitable support for agricultural operations. Furthermore, the scheme provides essential life insurance and financial security to the bereaved families of farmers in the unfortunate event of their demise, safeguarding their future against total destitution.

Benefits of the Krishak Bandhu Scheme

(1) Through the Krishak Bandhu Scheme, farmers who own less than 1 acre of land are provided with an annual amount of 4,000 rupees. This amount is distributed in 2 installments per year, meaning a total of 4000 rupees is given in 2 installments of 2000 each.

(2) All farmers who own 1 acre or more land are provided with a total of 10,000 rupees annually, distributed in two installments of 5,000 rupees each per year.

(3) Additionally, under the Krishak Bandhu Scheme, if any farmer within the age range of 18 to 60 years passes away, their family is provided with a one-time amount of 2 lakh rupees.

Who Can Apply

• Then you need to provide the information of the document through which you want to check the ID number of the krishak bandhu Scheme. For example, if you want to check the ID using Aadhar Card, then you need to provide your Aadhar Number in the respective field.

Krishak Bandhu Scheme Death Benifits

If a farmer registered under the Krishak Bandhu Scheme is between 18 and 60 years of age and unfortunately passes away, their family will receive a one-time payment of 2 lakh Rupees. In this case, the family needs to fill out a form and submit necessary documents to the Agricultural Department office. The 2 lakh Rupees will be distributed to the farmer’s spouse and legal heirs. If the deceased farmer has four children and a spouse, each of the five family members will receive 40 thousand Rupees, totaling to 2 lakh Rupees.
